The Group is again facilitating industry participation in the annual US Department of the Interior “NRDA Restoration Program Workshop” involving all of the Department’s staff who are working nationwide on natural resource damage assessment and restoration matters under diverse US laws. On March 30, 2011, in Phoenix. AZ, the Group will co-facilitate a session on “Three Principles for Natural Resource Damage Assessment Practices: ‘How We Can Walk the Talk’” which will look, by way of case examples, at ways to effect three principles for NRDA practice: (1) aligning NRD practice with program goals; (2) strengthen the science-based approach to assessment; and (3) focusing on the benefits of collaboration. Group Facilitates Ongoing Communication and Practice Exchange with US and European Government Officials...
Via the Group’s Industry/Trustee NRDA Standing Committee, its NRDAR Practice Exchange Website and a host of other initiatives, the Group is continuing to facilitate dialogue and practice exchange between industry and federal and state government trustees relative to natural resource damage assessment and restoration issues in actual practice. During 2010, Group members have participated in various US regional forums (known as Joint Assessment Teams or JATs) as well as attended national meetings convened by the US Department of the Interior. The Group also continues to convene periodic workshops in Europe involving the European Commission, Member State Authorities, industrial company and other external practitioners concerning best practices related to implementation of the EU Environmental Liability Directive throughout Europe. Great Lakes NRDA Roundtable Brings Together Trustees, Industry and Practitioners
The second Great Lakes Natural Resource Damage Assessment (“NRDA”) Roundtable convened in April 2009 in Lansing, MI, involving participation by over 50 representatives from federal trustee agencies, state trustee agencies, and the industrial and practitioner communities to discuss NRDAR practice issues of concern to the Great Lakes region. The Great Lakes NRDA Roundtable is one of four regional multi-stakeholder NRDAR forums in the US at present Member Companies may access the Members-US website for additional information and meeting materials.
US Department of the Interior Publishes Final Rule on Natural Resource Damages for Hazardous Substances
The US Department of the Interior published, in the Federal Register, the "Natural Resource Damages for Hazardous Substances" Final Rule (73 Fed. Reg. 57259). The Group will be convening conference calls and meetings of its Industrial Company and Affiliate members to examine the practical effects of the rule changes.
