Ad-Hoc Industry Natural Resource Damage Group - A Program of Barbara J. Goldsmith and Company

US Program

Leadership/Partnerships

Hundreds of companies have participated as members of the Group and supported Group projects in the US. The Group's membership represents a broad range of industries, including aerospace, electronics, petroleum, chemicals, mining, metals, motor vehicles, forest products, steel, transportation, pharmaceuticals and manufacturing.

In 1999, the Group established an Industry/Trustee Standing Committee in order to provide a focal point within the industrial community and between the industrial and trustee communities for NRDAR-related communications and activities. The committee is comprised of eight industrial companies in a broad range of industrial sectors and four major industry trade groups and meetings are held periodically with representatives of the five federal trustee departments (Interior, Commerce/NOAA, Agriculture, Energy and Defense) as well as state trustee groups. The Committee provides a ready mechanism for trustees to be able to quickly identify and/or access people and other resources within the industrial community and facilitate information requests, practice exchange and other communications on NRDAR issues to and from the industrial community. A major recent document developed by the Standing Committee has been posted to the NRDAR Practice Exchange Website. Phase II of this project is currently underway and several other activities have been identified by the Committee for joint activity.

Over the past several years, there have been a series of meetings hosted by US DOI, NOAA, the Ad-Hoc Industry Natural Resource Damage Group, API and others. Some of these meetings have generated excellent ideas for further joint exploration, notably related to NRDAR practice, with an emphasis on cooperative efforts targeted at expeditious, innovative and cost-effective restoration of resources. The Group is striving to find ways in which to support this dialogue and provide continuing opportunities for collaborative information sharing and effort. One such initiative is the NRDAR Practice Exchange Website established in collaboration with Federal and State trustee departments and agencies to track key NRDAR issues covered in meetings and NRDAR site experience. The new NRDAR Practice Exchange website was launched in June 2009.
